The Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees saw artists come and go, backtracks, strange collaboration, newbies, divas, and jokesters. One would expect that at a get-together of everything arts that you would be blown away show after show. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Even Koos Kombuis failed to impress.
THERE'S AFRIKAANS MUSIC AND MUSIC IN AFRIKAANS.
There was at least one standout. The show on everyone’s lips across the festival grounds – Die Ander Konsert.
Die Ander Konsert, a music production, was a surprising mix of local musicians, each known for their unique style and genre. Luna Paige together with Gerald Clark, Frieda van den Heever, Nick Turner, Pietman Geldenhuys, Mavis Vermaak, Schalk Joubert, and Ronan Skillen created a programme to challenge the conventions expected in Afrikaans music. They entertained and captivated their audience. It was a show with a difference. It was carefully balanced with playful interactions, and the audience enjoyed insights on their artistry and heard the stories behind the songs performed.
The combination of artists and the energy they shared on stage was outstanding. If you missed out on the KKNK and Die Ander Konsert, they are planning to take the show to other venues – definitely a must see.
